863. Ancient Britain.

Royal Mail's first issue of 2017 which was mentioned in Blog 860 and which has the subject of "Ancient Britain" is made up of 8 stamps (the subject of each design is given in Blog 860) and was designed by True North, lithographed by International Security Printers and perforated 14.5 x 14.
The illustrations used on 3 of the stamps including the Battersea shield, depicted above, are from artwork by Rebecca Strickson. See also the Blog of 26 March 2012, "Prehistoric Britain". I am looking forward to what will be an interesting set - I hope that Royal Mail keep up the good work for the rest of the year. Perhaps this could be the first in an annual series of British history stamps with Roman Britain in 2018, Anglo-Saxon England and early Scotland in 2019 and so on. One can only dream.
